Hearts in Atlantis - DivX Version (Normal Quality), DVD (Good Quality), PDA Version
November 22, 2009|
IMDB rating: 6.70 Plot: This is a gentle, innocent film about the reflections of an aging man (David Morse), who returns to his home town after the death of his best friend. Memories of life at age 11 floods back as it was a magical time that changed his life. Three 11 year old children (Anton Yelchin as Bobby, Mika Boorem as Carol, and Will Rothaar as Sully) share their lives. Carol & Bobby have a special affection for one another including sharing a kiss “by which all others will be measured”. Bobby lives with his mother (Hope Davis), a bitter, vain woman who looks for pleasures for herself without sharing much with her son. Into their lives comes a mysterious new boarder (Anthony Hopkins), who befriends the boy but generates distrust from the mother. As time passes, the man and boy share confidences and special powers are revealed. The man warns the boy to be on the lookout for the “lowmen”, who were seeking him. The two share a summer’s adventures and come to love one another before the inevitable happens. A confrontation with a school bully (Timothy Reifsnyder) also changes everyone. |

Like all books that are made into movies, the books are better…and these were good movies.

Cycle of the werewolf was a great book. I haven’t read any of his other books.

I liked all 5 of those. Dreamcatcher was my favorite. You should also consider the Gunslinger series.

TommyKnockers wasn’t worth it. I had the sense he just needed to get a book out. But I recall a book called The Langoliers…these little creatures that eat time. I am pretty sure King wrote it. If not, it’s the same genre and you might enjoy it.

The Stand (if you have patience), The Green Mile, Misery, It (if you have patience) and The Shining

The Stand - unabridged version- written and presented as he intended it is one of his favorite works. It is a powerhouse! Nightmares and Dreamscapes - a collection of short stories- will curl your hair…masterful writing there. Don’t sell those stories short (pun intended) he packs a whole lot of hell raising in a few pages. I also loved Christine…simply because he invented a malevolent machine in it…great descriptions! My own favorite is Cujo…only book I ever read that I had to put down and walk away from for a few minutes because it scared me so badly.

Read IT for the thrill ride of your life. King himself considers The Stand to be his masterpiece. Firestarter is also pretty good.
